Bobble of the Day Southpaw “Star Wars”

Bobble of the Day

Mascot: Southpaw

Team: Chicago White Sox

Year: 2106

Theme: Star Wars Night

Manufacturer: Alexander Global Productions (AGP)

So I’ve been waiting to do a Star Wars “Bobble of the Day” as I have a bunch of them. I got this one in the mail a few days ago so I figured since it’s a new one let’s give it a go. I have to admit that I’m not the biggest Star Wars fan so my explanation as to why will be in full detail in another blog soon to come.

Southpaw is a very underrated mascot in the game of baseball. The White Sox reside on the South Side of Chicago and this furry, green little creature should be getting more attention than it does. I love the color green and Southpaw fits the bill. He’s fully dressed in the Jedi Knight cloak and is waving the baby blue light saber around. The detail on this one is sick. The color variations are remarkable. Southpaw is wearing the black pinstripe uniform, the brown cloak on his back, the greenish/yellowish fur on his arms and head and of course the baby blue light saber. The lettering on the front states, “SOUTHPAW JEDI KNIGHT” and on the back is STAR WARS NIGHT 2016. The box on all 4 sides have multiple photos of the Jedi Knight and is full of various colors which I think makes the bobble that much more collectible. When you receive an SGA from a game, it is ALWAYS an added plus when the box is filled with colors instead of your standard shitty white box. AGP definitely put some thought into this one. Well done.

Sniper Rating: As stated above, I am not one of those Star Wars fanatics, but this one is a must add to any collection. I’ve never actually seen a full movie of Star Wars. One thing I do know is that when you see that Light Saber in a character’s hands, you better back the fuck up. I’m sure fans on the South Side who went to this game were going ape shit over this giveaway. I’m almost positive that any Stars Wars fan around the world wants this to add to their collection. The greenish/yellowish color of Southpaw’s fur is as eye-catching as Kaeperdick sitting down for the National Anthem. Given, I’m not a Star Wars fan the rating on this bobble slips a bit, but there’s no doubt this is one of my favorite Star Wars bobbles that sits quietly in the “Bobble Cave”.  8.0

Bobble of the Day Jennie Finch

Bobble of the Day

Player: Jennie Finch

Team: San Francisco Giants

Year: 2010 SGA

Manufacturer: Alexander Global Productions (AGP)

I like how the Giants did a bobble giveaway for Jennie. She is the best all-time softball player on the face of the Earth. Let alone the fact that she’s a certified bombshell, this a cool bobble. Given out during the 2010 season, this was a sure fire hit amongst the SF fans. The pitchers mound base is sick and the detail within her jersey is well done. The facial features are spot on and her wind-up stance like she’s pitching is legit.

Sniper rating: Considering this is the first ever woman Bobble of the Day rating, this one will get a high score. Does this get a high ranking because she’s a hot? Yes. Does this get a high rating because it’s Jennie Finch? Yes. Is the overall quality and attractiveness likable on this bobble? Yes. It’s a slam dunk bobble and you need to get it. You should have gotten it yesterday. Jennie is getting a 9.0 on this one. If she was in a Red Sox uniform she’d get a 10+++++++

Bobble of the Day Ted Williams

Bobble of the Day

Player: Ted Williams 1949 MVP

Team: Boston Red Sox

Year: 2007

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

FOCO came out with a series of Ted Williams bobbles that have various bronze bases. To collect the whole set is very difficult and super expensive. Most are numbered to 5009. I really like this one. It’s a 9″ bobble that has Teddy ball game throwing as he was the MVP of the 1949 season. The home white uniform has streaks of brown dirt on it to depict Ted playing in a game. What’s total kick ass is the bronze base with lettering on both sides. The back side has the Red Sox logo and year he won the MVP(1949). The front lettering says MVP and the year 1949 as well. My only gripe is this really doesn’t look like Ted Williams which is a shame. FOCO put so much work into this one and they can’t even get the best pure hitter in the game’s face right!

Sniper rating: This Williams MVP bobble is cool as shit. If you have the patience I’d advise getting all 4 of them. The overall design, colors, quality and creativity of the best hitter to play baseball makes this a true collector’s item. FOCO even made the box very eye-catching with the colors, Cooperstown logo and durability. Without a doubt this Teddy Ball Game 1949 MVP bobble gets a 9.0 even though the face is off a bit. Be patient. Keep searching. Don’t spend more than $200.00 for it.

Bobble of the Day Cole Hamels

Bobble of the Day

Player: Cole Hamels

Team: Philadelphia Phillies

Year: 2008

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

I’m not a huge fan of the Phillies. I can go on and on but I’m sure the Philly fans won’t appreciate  my hostility towards this franchise or their fans. I do like this set of the 08 World Series champs however. They are expensive and to complete the whole set is very difficult. I highlighted this Hamels MVP because it’s dope as hell. I love the pinstripe uni and most importantly it looks just like Cole Hamels. The attractiveness of the box is definitely a plus with the World Series Champions logo and Cole Hamels’ name and number running down the side on the front of the box. The base is also unique as hell that includes the year, Phillies logo and the color combination. It all just works. FOCO made Cole’s hair design on the back picture perfect. And lastly, he’s raising the MVP trophy up like a fucking boss.

Sniper rating: I don’t like the Phillies. I don’t like the organization. I don’t like their mascot. I don’t like Citizens Bank Park. But I do like these 08 Champ bobbles, especially Hamels. It stands a good 10 inches and is quite valuable. Keeping my opinions aside, this Cole Hamels MVP 08 WS Champ bobble gets a 9.0 rating. Try and collect the whole set. Good luck.

Bobble of the Day Ken Griffey Jr. SGA

Bobble of the Day

Player: Ken Griffey Jr.

Team: Seattle Mariners

Year: 2010 The ’95 Slide SGA

Manufacturer: BD&a

I looked through the gazillion Griffey bobbles I own and it was tough to pick one out to do a blog on. I decided to go with “The Slide” when Griffey scored on Edgar Martinez’ double vs the Yankees in the 1995 playoffs. Mariner nation claims it’s the most historic play in Mariner history.

Sponsored by FSN, this bobble resembles the exact play in which Griff scored on. The colors are cool as shit and the stance of the slide is spot on. The mouth is hard to replicate as it really doesn’t look like the Kid. Another kick ass feature is the background of his teammates jumping out of the dugout in celebration.

Sniper rating: This Griffey bobble is dope as hell. Very epic moment and who in their 30’s did not grow up rooting for Ken Griffey Jr.? No one. Everyone loved his swag and he invented the New Era backwards baseball cap. The moment he wore his cap backwards during BP and the Homerun Derby the trend started. He’s a Hall of Famer. He was the best player in Mariners history. He’s the Kid. And he’s got one of the best SGA’s of all time. Without a doubt a must have bobble and it gets a 9.5 rating. Would be a sure fire 10 but the face is a little shaky.

Bobble of the Day Cam Newton “The Dab”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Cam Newton “Dab”

Team: Carolina Panthers

Year: 2016

Manufactuer: Forever Collectibles

So the Bobblehead Hall of Fame over in Wisconsin came up with the Cam “Dab” Bobble. I was fortunate enough that my bro Phil Sklar hooked me up with one. It’s a great idea. The “Dab” has gone viral the past two years that Cam himself invented. You can see Cam demonstrate his signature “Dab” after a touchdown. We’ll first discuss the bobble then address Cam the person/player.

The bobble is as fresh as they come. Both of his arms bobble which is essential for this one. Cam’s head is lowered to depict the actual “Dab” movement. So I guess this is considered a 3 part bobblehead. The base is the actual logo of the Panthers which is unique in itself. The fellas over at the Bobble Hall of Fame did this one right and it’s very limited to only 504. Cam’s facial features are on point as it looks just like him.

On to Cam himself. Many people have their opinions of Cam. Is he cocky? Yes. Is he a show boat? Yes. Is he a leader? Yes. Is he a great NFL player? Yes. Does he care for children and contribute in the community? Yes. Is he a dick? Maybe. Does he rub people/players he plays against the wrong way? Yes. Does he whine on the sidelines like a little bitch? Yes.

I never liked him coming out of Auburn. I think that players that come out of college have to prove themselves prior to becoming a cocky son of a bitch. I’m starting to warm up to him little by little. Do I like his actions on the field? No. He warms me up though when I see him hand the ball to a little kid after scoring a TD. So as of right now I’m still on the fence with this guy.

Sniper Rating: This bobble is cool. Everyone loves the “Dab”. Little kids do the “Dab”, senior citizens do the “Dab”, coaches and players do the “Dab”. It’s a universal move. Rumor has it Cam will not be doing the “Dab” this season as he’s moving on to another move. I like the bobble but I’m on the fence with Cam himself. I think as his career moves along I’ll like him more and more. The bobble gets a 9.0. Cam gets a 5.0. We’ll call it a 7.0 overall. Have any of you Snipers ever dabbed?
