Bobble of the Day “Tommy Lasorda”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Tommy Lasorda

Team: Los Angeles Dodgers

Year: 2001

Manufacturer: BD&A

I love this Tommy bobblehead. It’s full of color and detail and he’s a certified legend in Dodger land. Right off the bat, the box stands out like a mother f’er. All four sides are plastered with bright colors, a recap of Tommy’s highlights as a manager and a list of bobbles that will be handed out that year.  I would have loved to be in line at Dodgers Stadium and get handed one of these.

I love the bright colored base being green as it offsets the white and blue colors of his uniform. The stance more importantly is what makes the bobblehead so great. Tommy is straight pimping, holding the bat as his uniform is detailed from head to toe with raised lettering for his name and the name “Dodgers”.  What’s sort of goofy is the white hair that sticks out from the hat matches the white eyebrows which looks a bit strange. No one has that much white in their eyebrows so I think the manufacture cut some corners in that area.

Sniper Rating: Everyone loves Tommy Lasorda and everyone should love this bobble of him. He’s a God in Dodger land and rightfully so. This one in particular is a must have for any Dodger fan and even if you are not a fan of the Dodgers, you still should add it to your collection. Given the bright detailed colors on the entire bobble as well as the box, Tommy gets a strong 9.0.

Bobble of the Day Mark McGwire

Bobble of the Day

Player: Mark McGwire

Team: Oakland Athletics

Year: 2015

Manufacturer: BD&A

So two weeks ago was the Jose Canseco “Bobble of the Day” so here is part two of the second Bash Brother; Mark McGwire. Similar to the Canseco, this McGwire if full of color and detail. The base resembles home plate with dirt and I love how they have McGwire pigeon toed as it’s actually the way he stands in the batters box. Attention to detail is never underestimated and BD&A nailed this one out of the park.

The uniform has the bright green stripe down the pant legs and I love the color of yellow mixed in there. My one complaint about this bobble is the fact that McGwires face doesn’t look at all like Mark McGwire. He looks like a ghost who’s frozen in time. It almost looks like he’s ready to take a massive shit and he can’t hold it in anymore. That’s my gripe about this SGA. I mean after all, how hard could it be to design McGwire’s face? All you have to do is put some red facial hair, some acne spots and make his face a little more pudgier. Not hard at all folks.

Sniper Rating: A centerpiece of the “Bash Brother’s”, this Mark McGwire needs to be in your collection. It actually needed to be in there yesterday. Let alone a great player and a nice looking bobble (besides the face detail) the box for this SGA is fresh as hell. Bright colors on each side and it’s got that glossy coating which makes it more attractive. Given the fact as my only compliant on this one is the poor face design, Mr. Bash Brother is getting a 7.5 rating.

Bobble of the Day Madison Bumgarner-Buster Posey

Bobble of the Day

Player: Madison Bumgarner/Buster Posey

Team: San Francisco Giants

Year: 2015

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

Being this is the first “duel” Bobble of the Day, I think it’s important to note that these two players are absolute shoe in’s for the Hall of Fame when they end their careers. What an outstanding “Duel” bobblehead of two SF Giant greats that shows the 3 World Series rings they’ve won together.

Mad Bum and Posey are obvious battery mates and the design of this one is bad ass as they come. Both players are decked out head to toe with much detail in their off-white uniform. FOCO went the extra mile by putting Posey’s dope catching gear on which is definitely an added effect. The leg protectors are outlined in orange and the chest protector shows all the variations of padding that covers the front of him. In addition to the protective gear, Posey’s fase mask is laying right in front of his feet with as much detail as Kylie Jenner’s Botox on her lips. MadBum’s facial hair is identical of what it actually looks like in person. The 3 Championship rings on the top of the base shine like a mother f’er. Each World Series ring has the Giants logo and the year they won it. The base in which the players are standing on reads “World Series Champions” with the SF logo.

Sniper Rating: There’s an insane amount of detail which makes this “Duel Bobble” so special. It’s not everyday in which a manufactuer creates and puts the money toward a quality detailed bobblehead like this one. Everything from the belts the players are wearing to the 3 WS rings on the base, the extra catchers equipment and the facial features. Any SF fan needs to have this one in their collection as it will only go up in value over time. These two studs will stroll right into Cooperstown without hesitation. Considering this bobble is limited to only #288 made, there is great value here. Well done Forever Collectibles. Well done. 9.5 on MadBum and Buster.

Bobble of the Day “Ozzie Smith” Gold Glove

Bobble of the Day

Player: Ozzie Smith

Team: St. Louis Cardinals (SGA)

Year: 2013

Manufacturer: Kloanz Inc.

The Wizzard! Anyone who’s not a fan of Ozzie can choke on a dick. One of the best short stops to ever play the position and probably the nicest guy in the world. The smile, the smoothness at short and the nickname “The Wizzard” can’t get any better! I used to love watching this dude do his flips on his way to his position to play the field.

So the Cardinals came out with this gem back in 2013 and they decided to highlight his 13 Gold Gloves as the theme. Great freaking idea Cards! I’ve never seen a bobble with gold gloves stacked up as Ozzie’s resting his arm on it. Whoever manufactured this one (Kloanz Inc.) did a hell of a job. Every Gold Glove he won has the year printed on the side of each glove. 13 in all. From 1980 to 1992 Ozzie won the Gold Glove award which is unreal.

Ozzie is wearing his powder blue jersey with a red hat and matching red cleats. The back of his jersey has his name that is raised lettering but the Cardinals logo on the front is just a sticker grrrrrrr. The base is just okay with a simple black color. I tend to enjoy sponsor emblem’s on my bobbles but this sponsor on the base is an eye sore. I think it’s supposed to be a white baseball base but the sponsor ” Ameren Missouri” is plastered on there which looks stupid. If it was put on the back I’d be okay with it but I know how marketing goes so I can’t complain to much.

Sniper Rating: Great player, great team and fresh as hell bobble. I love the Gold Gloves stacked up with each year on the side, the powder blue uni and Ozzie’s face resembles him very well. I don’t like where they put the sponsor emblem but it doesn’t ruin the bobble. I’ve never heard of Kloanz Inc. but they did well on this one. Good quality bobblehead for a deserving player. Ozzie and his Gold Gloves score a 7.5.

Bobble of the Day “Tommy John”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Tommy John

Team: Bridgeport Bluefish

Year: 2010 (SGA)

Manufacturer: Alexander Global Promotions (AGP)

Not everyone knows of Tommy John. Everyone sure as hell knows about tommy John surgery. The former Major Leaguer pitched for 26 seasons from 1963 to 1989 including three 20-win seasons. Of eligible players, John is currently the winningest pitcher in Major League Baseball history not in the Hall of Fame. Tommy finished with a 3.34 ERA and 2,245 strikeouts in 760 games played. Very crazy stats for a guy not to make it into the Hall. He is mainly known for the revolutionary surgery, named after him, which was performed on a damaged ligament in his pitching arm. Well over half of John’s career wins came after his surgery which is crazy. I’m sure you all know of a pitcher on your favorite team that has had this surgery. Nowadays, your better off just getting the surrey even if your healthy and get it out of the way because just about every MLB pitcher seems to get it.

On to the bobble. Tommy John was the manager of the Bridgeport Bluefish until he resigned 2009 to pursue other endeavors outside of baseball. The Bluefish liked his services so much that they came out with a bobble of him the following year. It’s a pretty standard bobble with Tommy ready to unload a fastball as he’s standing on the mound. The dirt looks kind of cheap and not realistic but his uniform is spot on. A lot of detail and the print and lettering is raised with no stickers! The story behind this bobble is Tommy’s left arm is the bobble. Not the head. The Bluefish wanted to resemble why Tommy became so famous by his known surgery so they have his elbow bobbling. I like the idea very much. I really wish they had his head bobble as well as the elbow, as the neck just looks weird.

Sniper Rating: I dig this bobble a lot. It’s got character and the idea of having Tommy John’s left elbow bobble is a no brainer. This one is very hard to come by as I barely see these pop up on Ebay which makes it a hard find. I don’t even have the box for it as I got it at a tag sale. I’m hoping down the road to track a few down so give me a shout if you’re interested. Overall, cool bobble for a famous player not known for his talents but his well known arm surgery. Tommy John gets a 7.0 rating.

Bobble of the Day “Robin Yount”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Robin Yount

Team: Milwaukee Brewers

Year: 2006

Manufacturer: BD&A

Here we have a Robin Yount 2006 SGA given out to Brewer nation almost 10 years ago. If you’re looking for a bobble to add some “pop” to your collection, this is the one. Never mind being a stud player for the Brewers for a shit ton of years, this bobble is crazy unique. BD&A created this one with Robin in a powder blue retro uniform and it screams detail. His face is very realistic and his mustache and hair is precise. I love the yellow section on the front of the hat and the Brewer logo is embedded in the hat and not just a sticker. Actually, all the lettering from his name, Pepsi sponsor and number on the back of his jersey is hand done. The powder blue uni adds crazy color and I dig the orange base he’s standing on as it offsets the variety of colors. BD&A didn’t have to put the bats crossing on top the base, but they did. They nailed it. Well done.

img_1158 img_1159

Sniper Rating: A lot of collectors and fans across baseball outside of Milwaukee did not get the chance to see Robin play every day, but they should have. He’s an absolute legend in Brewer nation and rightfully so. You can score this 06 SGA on Ebay for under $15.00 and it needs to be in your collection. In one of my curio’s I have this placed right in front where it should be.  Given the detail, the multiple colors, embedded lettering and bats crossing on the front, there’s no reason to think this bobble doesn’t deserve a 9.0 rating.
