Bobble of the Day “Retro Warriors”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Retro Boy Face

Team: Golden State Warriors

Year: 2013

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

So FOCO came out with these “Retro” bobbles some time ago. They pretty much resemble a standard chubby body shape with a “boyish” type of face. Some may think this series is super creepy, which at first I thought they were, but they’ve grown on me. For some reason, collectors go nuts for these things. I know a guy that has over 400 of these both baseball and basketball ones.

Anywho, this Warriors one is pretty dope. I love the headband that he’s rocking first and foremost. As stated above, he has a standard “chubby” body type with the Warriors jersey and shorts on. FOCO once again when cheap O and the Warriors sticker on the front top the base but what else can we do right? The little guy holding the rock is another cool feature that makes this bobble pop a little more.

Sniper Rating: Overall, this is a nice looking bobble. This particular one is a few years older than the new modern ones which makes it harder to find and much more expensive. Given the amount of Curry and all Warrior player bobbles coming out recently, this retro one would be a finishing touch to a full collection. I highly advise any Warrior fan to scoop this one up. Retro Boy Face scores a deserving 8.5 rating.

Bobble of the Day “Tony LaRussa”

Bobble of the Day

Manager: Tony LaRussa

Team: St. Louis Cardinals

Year: 2017

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

What a legendary coach. Everyone and their mother respected Tony for so many years as a manager. This dude always had his teams ready to play but eventually it was time to hang them up.

This bobble is super cool in so many ways. It’s a classic look with a dark charcoal rim around the base with the Cardinals logo dead smack in the middle. I LOVE it that FOCO made the letters white (and raised) as it really stands out from the dark rim color. The top of the base is a standard “dirt” platform which resembles the field obviously. The pose makes this bobble to the highest heavens. Tony just standing there with hands in his pants nice and relaxed. Very classic look!

Sniper Rating: Instead of a jersey, FOCO put a dope looking Manager “jacket” on Tony which looks very sleek. This is a definite homerun bobble of one of the greatest coaches. Get this one ASAP as it’s a sure fire conversation starter amongst others! Tony and his managerial bobble scores a 9.5.

Bobble of the Day “SF Giants Parrot”

Bobble of the Day

Mascot: Parrot

Team: San Francisco Giants

Year: 2017

Manufacturer: AGP

So the Giants did a “Special Event” for ticket holders on August 27th of 2016. The theme was Margaritaville at the park. I’m not sure how many were handed out as this was a “season ticket holder” event. I did a bobble of the day review of the Parrot that the Spinner handed out 5 years ago or so and granted I’m not the biggest Jimmy Buffet fan, but this one is cool as shit.

The Giants didn’t have to give a bobble out but they did and they twisted it perfectly into a Margaritaville night themed event. Well done SF Giants.

This quick run of these parrot bobbles are made very well. The box first off, is colored from head to toe with photos of the parrot and hashtags of the Giants everywhere. The bobble itself has a circular base with “Margaritaville” in raised letters on the bottom. The parrot is sitting on a baseball bat as the manufacturer is representing a branch that an actual parrot would sit on. The parrot himself is flooded with colors with bright green wings, a palm tree orange shirt and shiny colored glasses. Very unique idea AGP.

Sniper Rating: The letters on the base and the base color itself represent the Giants colors which makes sense. Even if your not a SF Gaints fan, this is a must have in your collection. It stands out and it’s a fucking parrot! Get this one Snipers as there’s not to many around for long. Margaritaville Parrot scores a deserving 8.5 rating.

Bobble of the Day “Larry Bird”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Larry Bird

Team: Boston Celtics

Year: 2014

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

Ever since FOCO came out with these “newspaper” base bobbles, I’ve had a chubby. They are much more unique than the regular square or rectangle base. Plus, it’s a newspaper which means the player standing on top made headlines.

Who doesn’t miss Larry Legend battling Magic, Jordan and Barkley on a nightly basis? The guy is still living Legend and this particular bobble represents how good he was. The base reads, “Celtics on up! Bird completes 1986 MVP Season with title and Finals MVP”.

I love the vintage uniform with Celtic green and the home white uniform. Larry’s got the hiked up 80’s style shorts and the striped green tall socks. In one hand he’s holding the 86 Finals MVP trophy and in the other is the actual Finals trophy.

Sniper Rating: I would assume any manufacturer who tries to create a bobble of Larry would have a difficult time designing the face and hair. Larry Bird has different features to his face and wavy, floppy blond hair which is hard to replicate. I think for the most part, FOCO did okay with this one. The hair is a bit to high and somehow they could have made his face a little bit older. I’m super critical on this one because I’m a C’s fan but overall it’s a good representation of Larry.

Hard to come bobble of one of the greats, Larry and his historical 1986 season scores a 9.0

Bobble of the Day “Slugger”

Bobble of the Day

Mascot: Slugger

Team: Kansas City Royals

Year: 2015

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

Sluggggggggggger….. What a bad ass mascot huh? A fucking lion! The Royals struck gold in 2015 when they won the World Series and Slugger was behind the whole magic.

I love the bright yellow lion’s head and the fact that it features a thick brown beard. The uniform is the standard gray colors outlined with royal blue. On this one, Slugger is not wearing cleats but he’s wearing these funky turf shoes which I kind of dig. The base is quite different as it’s not square, circular or rectangle. It’s like a polygon or some shit, but either way I like it. The lettering on top of the base and front are all STICKERS. STICKERS I said. FOCO, you cannot do this to monumental bobbleheads. You wanna do stickers for generic bobbles or a regular season series limited to 2017 or something fine, but don’t do it on a World Series bobble for Christ’s sake. Who knew the Royals would win the title? Who knows when they will ever win one again? Don’t do it on meaningful bobbles that collector’s and fans look forward to. It’s a cheap look and remain a company that doesn’t cut corners. PLEASE!

Sniper Rating: The Slugger mascot is cool as hell and regardless of the mess with the stickers, this somehow belongs in your collection. Past Slugger mascot bobbles go for big bucks on the bay and this one will be right there in a few years regardless of the stickers. Slugger receives a 8.5 rating and FOCO scores a -7 on this one.

Bobble of the Day “Mike Piazza”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Mike Piazza

Team: New York Mets

Year: 2016

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

Big Mike getting inducted into the Hall of Fame this past year is the equivalent of the birth if your first child. EVERYONE in the world was happy to see this legend get in. Even if you aren’t a Mets fan, you were ecstatic for him. I happened to be up there a few weeks after the induction ceremony and Cooperstown was still buzzing about him and Griffey getting in. I also happened to sneak around to a few memorabilia shops and scored a bunch of these exclusive Piazza Hall of Fame bobbles.

So this one is the cream of the crop of Piazza bobbleheads. The first thing that pops on this one has to be the Cooperstown Hall of Fame logo that sits smack dead on the top of the base. After all, it’s got America’s colors of red, white and blue with a baseball! The outline of the base has a thin red trim on the way bottom and right above is a dark blue. I’m glad Piazza’s name is in the color white as it’s very visible but the fact that it’s a sticker is a major downfall. FOCO, what would it cost you folks to add some raised letters? An extra dollar to each bobblehead made? C’mon! Especially, for this type of caliber player nevertheless a player who getting inducted into the Hall of Fame for crying out loud! Anyway, the pose Mike is in, portray’s his signature homerun swing which is bad ass. The pants looks sharp with the blue stripe down the side and matching blue belt.

I also like the fact FOCO added some detail to make up for the sticker mishap by putting wrist bands on Mike and the number #31 which collector’s can clearly see. The helmet, face and go-tee are on point as it does look like Piazza.

Sniper Rating: Overall, this is considered a “special” bobble and I don’t use the term to often. It’s history. It’s sentimental if you lived and died by Piazza in a Mets uniform. Limited to only 504 made, this HOF bobble without question scores a strong 9.0. It would’ve scored a perfect 10 if it wasn’t for the shitty stickers FOCO cut corners on. Shoot me a line if you need one of these because the well is running dry as I only have a few left.
