Bobble of the Day “Yoenis Céspedes”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Yoenis Cespedes

Team: New York Mets

Year: 2017

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

So FOCO and the Mets teamed up and created a short series of “Apple Base” retail bobbles only sold in the Mets team store. I first saw a few of them on Ebay and I immediately liked them. The players included in the series are, Cespedes, Jose Reyes, Jacob Degrom and Noah Syndergaard.

When taking it out of the box, the first thing that pops is the Apple Base. It’s pretty bad ass. It’s literally shaped like a New York Apple and has the Mets logo dead smack on the top in the middle. The base trim is all black and the player’s name is raised letters in white which goes well against the black. All the players have the white and blue pinstripe pants with Met blue jerseys. I like this Yoenis Cespedes a lot because of the neon green sleeve he is rocking on his right arm. It’s a very attractive feature and it stands out dramatically.

Sniper Rating: Given the fact that these are only sold in the Mets team store, and are very limited in quantity, I would suggest jumping on the set ASAP. These will soon be gone. One thing I don’t appreciate is the price of $44.99. This is price gouging to it’s finest. This retail business these days is tricky and everyone wants the extra buck. For FOCO to have this made and shipped it must have costed no more than $18.00 to make each one. I would say it would be reasonable to charge $39.99 but $44.99 is ridiculous. Then you have NY state tax which is 8.875. Luckily, I have a connection to use a 15% card that qualifies for any purchase in the team store.

Given the uniqueness of this bobble, it’s a sure fire 9.0. The price sucks but that part of the game. If you’re in the NY area, head over to the team store, cough up some money and scoop a few of these up before you miss the bus on this set.

Bobble of the Day “Mookie Betts”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Mookie Betts

Team: Lowell Spinners

Year: 2016

Manufacturer: Success Promotions

Mookie! Will he win the MVP like he should have last year? Yes! He got fucked by Trout but Trout’s team didn’t even sniff the playoffs. Without Mookie in the Sox’ lineup, they win 20 fewer games.

So the Lowell Spinners came out with this beauty of an SGA last year. The base is fresh looking and has Mookie’s name in raised letters against a red trim. I love the home plate Success Promotions put on the base representing Mookie is at bat. The pants look dope as hell with the red pinstripe and matching white batting gloves. The Red Sox logo is on his left shoulder which is a nice added feature.

Sniper Rating: Mookie is now the face of the franchise now that Big Papi retired and I would highly recommend starting to stock up on Mookie’s bobbles ASAP. He’s not even 24 years old and will destroy numbers that know one has seen before. He’s a fun, energetic player and this particular bobble needs to be front and center in your Curio. Mookie and his Spinners SGA score a 9.0.

P.S. The box is crazy detailed and has a nice attractive glossy coating!

Bobble of the Day “Gary Carter”

Bobble of the Day

Player: Gary Carter

Team: New York Mets

Year: 2013

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

One could say this is in the category of “holy grails” as far as Mets bobbleheads are concerned. FOCO came out with these beauties back in 2013 and the Carters sold out pretty damn fast. I scored a case of them and just sold my last one for sale for well over $300.00 bones. For some reason these don’t pop up on Ebay to often. The Kid was an all time great and just a great guy overall.

FOCO did not hold back on this one. The detail within this bobble is special as it commemorates the Mets winning the 1986 World Series. Gary is running to the mound in celebration with the old school pinstripe uniform which I love! The leg and chest protector cannot be designed any better. They are both royal blue with an orange trim around the perimeter. F#*&^ing incredible! I don’t know what goes on over in China when these are made, but the catcher’s mask is not cheaply made. Whoever molded and painted it needs to get a raise. It’s sturdy, thick and heavy. No cheap material on that particular piece. The base has the Mets logo with the World Series trophy right by Gary’s side. I love the blue trim on the front of the base with Gary’s name in white raised letters. Well done FOCO!

Sniper Rating: The hair and facial features on Carter are dead on point. The mouth opened with excellent detail of his teeth and let alone his curly hair coming out of the sides of the catcher’s helmet is precise. Of course The Kids Cooperstown Hall of Fame plaque sits against the back of the base and reads, “ Gary Edmund Carter” It states the teams he’s played for and some stats.

There’s no doubt about it, Gary Carter’s well detailed bobble scores a stand up 10.0. This is right in front of my curio to display proudly. A Hall of Fame player and even a better person. RIP Gary Carter as we lost you to soon.

Bobble of the Day “Paws”

Bobble of the Day

Mascot: Paws

Team: Detroit Tigers

Year: 2014

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

Paws has to be the most underrated mascot in the big leagues. Hands down. I swear, if the Detroit Tigers were a dominant team in the bigs year in and year out, Paws would get more recognition. What’s not to like? Paws is a furry Tiger with black and orange strips.

This particular one was in a series in which the Tiger ran the Bobble of the Month program back in 2014. Paws sitting in his chair with a desk represents the September “Bobble of the Month”, hence students going back to school. This 9 inch bobble is absolutely flooded with detail. The gold base is sharp as fuck with Paws written in navy blue color and it’s raised. Lying on the desk, are a few books, am apple with a green bobble worm coming out. How dope is that? Paws has a jersey and tie on as he’s gotta look sharp for the first day of school. Hs right arm bobbles as is displays him writing with a pencil.

Sniper Rating: The chalkboard on the back is the added finish to an overall well made bobble. These flew off the shelves in the stadium team store and deservingly so. This may be one of the most detailed mascot bobbles I’ve come across in a log ass time. It’s sturdy and very heavy. Without a doubt, “Paws” the student mascot scores a 10.0 rating.

Bobble of the Day “George Brett”

Bobble of the Day

Player: George Brett

Team: Kansas City Royals

Year: 2014

Manufacturer: Forever Collectibles

So the Royals had a few years with a run of their “Bobble of the Month” series which ended abruptly like most MLB teams. The last year they ran the program, they decided to highlight George Brett in many of them and it’s a damn good reason they did.

This beauty highlights George Brett in the World Series Game 7 in which the Royals beat the Cardinals 11-0. George went 4-5 with 2 runs scored as the Royals clobbered the Cards.

The base is in the shape of the Royals logo and has the game score from the actual game. I love the gold trim around the bottom perimeter of the base as it blends in perfectly with the royal blue color. Mr. Brett is in a winning pose after beating the Cardinals to win the World Series title. His arms are up and he’s holding his ball cap in his right hand.

Sniper Rating: The uniform is spot on and the stir ups feature and old school look which makes this bobble flashy. His facial features are just “okay” as i think FOCO made George Brett look 10 years younger but who’s to complain. This limited edition bobble is roughly 10 inches in height and is quite heavy for the bookshelf.

A historical accomplishment with the best player on the team going 4-5 in Game 7, this bobblehead deserves nothing less than a 9.5. Well done FOCO.

Bobble of the Day “Chipper saves Freddie”

Bobble of the Day

Players: Chipper Jones/Freddie Freeman

Team: Atlanta Braves

Year: 2016

Manufacturer: Unknown

So we all know the story how Freddie Freeman got stuck in an unexpected snowstorm and was stranded for over 5 hours. He posted on Twitter how he was stuck and his former teammate Chipper Jones came to the rescue with his ATV to save Freddie.

Very unique story but this bobblehead says it all. The Braves obviously caught wind of this and decided to give out a bobblehead depicting the two former Braves on an ATV. Very creative idea right?

First off, Chipper is all decked out in his camouflage attire to go along with his “Army” colored ATV which is camouflage as well. Freddie is straight pimping on back holding tight and extremely thankful his buddy came to rescue him.

Sniper: The facial features look pretty solid and the base is a standard gray color with white raised letters that read, “Chipper Rescues Freddie”. I personally don’t own a bobblehead that depicts an ATV so this one is front and center in my Curio Cabinet. Two good ball players and even a better story. Get your hands on this SGA as this is one of the most creative bobbles you’ll ever see. Chipper to the rescue to save Freddie scores a sure fire 9.0.
