Motivational Wednesday

Just a god awful story. Hearing the passing of a nice guy that many of us cheered for is gut wrenching. This puts a lot of things into perspective. This shit is bigger than baseball, sports, competing and more importantly bobbleheads. You never want to hear this type of news at all. Roy was always nice in front of the camera and a surgical pitcher. Fucking dominate to say the least! What’s even more sad, is the fact that Doc left behind a wife and two kiddos. As a father of two, I literally had tears flowing down my face. Just awful as I’m sure he was enjoying his retired life and well deserved.

And as a reminder, live your life how YOU want to. You never know when the big guy upstairs is ready to call your number.

Are custom bobbleheads the new big thing?

So we all know bobbleheads have evolved like crazy the past 8-10 years, but are custom bobbles the new thing?

I see on Instagram and Facebook that collector’s are making custom bobbleheads and people love them. Many custom makers replicate players in different uniforms and they change their jerseys and hats. I can tell it’s a very involved process that takes a shit load of time. And they aren’t cheap either. A good custom bobble can run you between $60.00 to $100.00.

It starts with a certain utensil to shave off the letters and numbers and ultimately removing all the paint. The actual design part is very tricky and the paint job must be precise from every angle. I myself, cannot do it because I don’t have the patience for it. I can fix a bobble like you wouldn’t believe, but I cannot for the life of me create a custom. Custom bobblehead work is a skill that CANNOT be taught. You either have it or you don’t. It takes an incredible amount of talent to create a “Custom” bobblehead. It truly is a skillful art.

I personally, am not a custom type of collector. They are definitely cool, but I think they lack authenticity. I want to receive a bobble straight from the hand of a person at the gate from the ballpark. I only have a few in my collection and they are very unique. I tend to want to own a bobblehead that everyone has access to or is hard to get. But, if you’re looking for a special player in a different uniform or character from a movie, then by all means hire one of the custom makers.

Here are a few custom bobble makers out there as they do excellent work.  Marlon’s custom bobbleheads, Roman out in Cali and Ricardo (10thplayer). There’s a good 10-20 of them out there but that’s up to you to find them on Facebook or other social media outlets.

Take a look at their great work.

What’s one bobblehead that you’ll never get rid of?

I love this question and I can’t wait to hear from all you Snipers as to which bobble you’d never think of getting rid of.

I myself would never get rid of my David Ortiz World Series Championship trophy/MVP bobblehead. This one has a soft spot in my heart as without Big Papi, the Sox would never win the World Series. He single handily destroyed pitching and helped propel the Red Sox to the title. I love the goggles and army helmet representing that the bottles of champagne were flowing in the locker room after the title win. The base is a clean as they come with the Sox logo front and center and Ortiz’s name in raised letters.

Without a doubt, I’d never give this one up. Even if I was offered a piss load of money for it, I’d tell the person to kick rocks as this is one that will NEVER leave the Bobble Cave.

Bobble of the Day “Dee Gordon” Miami Marlins SGA

Bobble of the Day

Player: Dee Gordon

Team: Miami Marlins

Manufacturer: Match-Up Promotions

Fucking Dee Gordon man. The guy steals a million bases and is lighting fast. I’m glad the Marlins had him in a sliding pose rather than a hitting or fielding stance as he’s know for his crazy speed.

So Dee is highlighted making a slide into second base in his Marlin orange jersey with black and orange matching cleats. I love the white raised letters against the black backdrop of the base on the front. Match-Up made it a point to add Dee’s sliding glove to protect his fingers and more importantly avoid injury. That’s definitely a feature over looked by many collectors.

Sniper Rating: This one is a “flashy” bobble which won’t take up to much space in your display cabinet. The box is flooded with bright colors and actually has all of the Marlins bobble giveaways listed on the side of the box. A very convenient feature for us collector’s to keep track of during the grind of the baseball season. The Marlins didn’t have to much going on this season but this Gordon bobblehead can change that by adding it to your collection. Dee Gordon scores a 8.0 and I wanna give a special shout out to my buddy Emmett for the hookup.

Catcher’s after awhile don’t even bother throwing to second. He’s that fast!

And the SGA manufacturer of the year goes to…

By far, hands down the manufacturer of SGA 2017 Bobbleheads goes to Success Promotions!!!

They were assigned to create and manufacture some very difficult bobbles this season and they nailed it. For example, Cousin Eddie and Wayne’s world. Both faces look identical to the character. Do u have any idea how complex it must have been to duplicate Cousin Eddie’s snarl face? Nevermind adding the cigar and closed hungover eye!

Another example of why they win the manufacturer of the year award is seen in the Shooter McGavin SGA given away by the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Yellow jacket Shooter is wearing. Take a look at the flare and wavyness of the jacket as he’s running. It literally looks like it’s waving in the air. Now, I don’t know how to mold and sculp a bobblehead, but I would assume that is not an easy task to do. It just looks ridiculously authentic.

Overall, the structure and sturdiness of Success Promotions bobbleheads are as good as they come. I love the font they use on the front of each base with their letters. They are clean and neat. In addition, 90% of their boxes come with a shit ton of photos and have that “glossy” coating feel to them. I’m telling you, when you hold one of their boxes in your bare hand, it feels like your holding a piece of rare gold. It’s an immediate “feel good” moment when one is in your possession.

Congratulations to Success Promotions for winning the Manufacturer of the Year within the bobblehead world and keeping us fans satisfied with your products. Well done and we’ll be looking forward to your excellent products next season. Go check Success out as they killer branding merchandise for any fan!
